Early in the morning is my favorite time to photograph this area. Even in summer the lake and the surrounding mountains are covered in fog. The fog and the light can be used for some very interesting compositions. Later in the day you can use the turquoise blue waters of the lake for your compositions. I have seen some interesting shots of the blue water and Mount Storm King. Remember to use the polarizer if you include the lake in your compositions.

I love reading your blog. I was doing a lot of searching on places to visit in Seattle and came across your blog. I'd be interested to see what around the area you suggest doing or taking pictures of!
Haven't yet seen if you have the follow part enabled, but I'll have to see! Otherwise will be bookmarking!
Usually you'll be photographing the morning light on the distant peaks of Mt. Olympus and the Bailey Range and the great morning light can happen in a matter of seconds. This is where it really pays to know your equipment and to be confident in the basics of photography, like exposure and using filters.
